The common sense rules are base guidelines that all members should follow. They are explained here to prevent any internet armchair lawyers from wasting Staff's time.
When a call isn't spelled out in the rules, decide by these:
- Protect the majority's experience over any one player. When in doubt, side with the server, not the loudest individual.
- Evidence we can show beats intel we can't. Act on member-visible proof. Private intel is for monitoring only - log it with
.mnote and watch, do not punish on it.
- Reversible action first. Warn or mute before banning when unsure. Easy to undo, and it buys time to gather evidence.
- Consistency over perfection. A fair-enough call applied the same way every time beats an agonized "perfect" call applied unevenly.
- Escalate only if it's irreversible AND high-stakes AND novel - all three. Otherwise the on-duty Admin decides and logs the call (ticket or
#🛡|mod-log). For irreversible high-stakes situations with precedent (e.g. mesh-raid rollbacks), follow the existing SOP.
- Server rules are not open to interpretation.
- Avoid debates with those attempting to find loopholes.
- For disruptive content, apply an appropriate punishment based on severity.
- Handle users baiting others into rule violations (e.g., soliciting Discord invites or eliciting prohibited language).
- Apply similar consequences as if the baited user broke the rule.
- Ensure members use English exclusively in public channels, as we lack sufficient bilingual Staff to moderate other languages.
- All punishments issued against an account are final.
- Claims like "my brother used my account" are not valid excuses.
- Users are responsible for the security and good standing of their accounts.
- Staff have the final say on punishments placed against an account.
- Actions not specifically listed in the rules can still be punished if they are disruptive to the server's purpose.
- Evaluate severity, user intent, and exercise discretion when making punishment decisions.
